Summer Ball / All Stars
CMB offers a Summer Baseball (All Stars) program following completion of the spring season for Minors, Majors, Intermediate, Juniors & Seniors. Players are selected on a try-out basis, the season runs from late June and goes until the first weekend in August. All players are encouraged to consider July baseball, as if there is enough interest, we can enter multiple teams at each level.
The all-star season is a wonderful experience and CMB would like you to know the commitment that is required from the players and parents. The summer baseball program is more competitive and is structured differently than house league. Unlike the regular season where the focus is on giving every child an opportunity to play every position, managers will set the batting line-up and place players in field positions they feel will give them the competitive advantage. The minimum requirement for playing time is different than the regular season with players required to play only 3 defensive outs and bat once per game (Except Minors where all the kids bat). Coaches will still be expected to ensure that all players are developing baseball skills and having personal successes, but a strong commitment from both parents and players will be expected.
In some divisions we may look to combine with other leagues if we don't have enough interest for our own teams. Players are evaluated at tryouts by the coaches in each division, as well as input from their regular season coaches. Summer baseball team tryouts will be held on May long weekend.
Expectations of an All-Star Player:
* Practice held 2-3 per week, at the Coach's discretion, mid June thru July. Please try to avoid Vacations during this time.
* Games are played on the weekends - including Sundays - and could be scheduled on back-to-back days.
* Players will come to practices and games with a positive attitude and demonstrate exceptional sportsmanship at all times.
*Some tournaments will be out of the Calgary area and could be in places such as Medicine Hat or Lethbridge.
Any out of town travel costs are the responsibility of the parents. Teams are encouraged to fundraise to help off set any costs if they wish.
