CMB offers a summer ball program following the completion of spring season play for Minors, Majors (and possibly Intermediate, Junior & Senior). Players are selected on a try-out basis in late June and the season goes until the first weekend in August (August Long Weekend). All players are encouraged to consider summer baseball, as if there is enough interest, we can enter teams in AAA, AA and A divisions.
The summer ball season is a wonderful experience and CMB would like you to know the commitment that is required from the players and parents. The summer baseball season is slightly more competitive (depending on level) and is structured differently than house league. Unlike the spring season where the focus is on giving every child an opportunity to play every position, coaches will set the batting line-up and place players in field positions they feel will give them the competitive advantage. The minimum requirement for playing time is different than the regular season with players required to play only 3 defensive outs and bat once per game (little League Rules). CMB still expects coaches to give players ample opportunity to play, especially during round robin play. A strong commitment from both parents and players will be expected at all levels.
In some divisions we may look to combine with other associations if we don't have enough interest for our own teams. Players are evaluated at all-start tryouts by the All Star coaches, third party evaluators and CMB executive in each division, as well as input from their regular season coaches. Players must play in 60% of their spring team's games to be eligible for summer season (Little League Rule). Summer team tryouts will be held on June 17th.
Expectations of a Summer Ball Player:
* Practice held 2-3 days per week, at the coach's discretion, mid-June thru to and including August long weekend. Vacations should be avoided during this time.
* Games are played on weekends - including Sundays - and could be scheduled on back-to-back days.
* Games will be played out of town, including, but not limited to, Calgary, Medicine Hat and Lethbridge.
* Players will come to practices and games with a positive attitude and demonstrate exceptional sportsmanship at all times.
*There also may be weekend tournament opportunities, including the long weekend at the start of July and the long weekend in August.
There is an additional fee of $350 associated with summer ball to cover little league fees, diamonds, equipment, clothing and other expenses. Any out of town travel costs are the responsibility of the parents.
