Purpose - To provide the 14-18 year old baseball players in Cochrane and surrounding area with a high level, competitive program in which to continue to develop the necessary skills and knowledge to play the game at an elite level.
To keep as many baseball players in Cochrane as possible and provide them with the opportunity to play baseball at a high levels
To provide players with the knowledge and skills set to make them better players and better people at the end of the year.
Players will be expected to put baseball as a top priority behind family commitments and academics. Players will be expected to follow all rules set out by the coach and communicate any issues effectively. Players are expected to represent the Town of Cochrane, Cochrane Minor ball (CMB) and themselves with integrity and pride.
Coaches will be expected to have the necessary skills and courses to teach the players the proper technical skills required to improve and play the game at a high level. In addition, to ensure that the players and coaches represent CMB and the Town of Cochrane with integrity and will be expected to teach the players to play the game of baseball with honesty and strong ethics.
Parents are expected to let the coaches do their job without intervening or influencing their decision in anyway. Parents are expected to provide the support that players need at their age to ensure that they can be instructed and taught the necessary skills to improve upon the game of baseball.
Cochrane Minor Ball is expected to provide the players of CMB with the opportunity to play baseball at a high level, gain knowledge, and develop the correct technical skills. To provide elite level coaches who will provide the above skills along with developing players into young men/women with strong values.
Registration will open on December 1st with a fee of $50. This fee will go towards paying for the turf and coaches for the try out process.
Registration will open early to allow CMB to ensure that there is enough interest in the new program to go ahead and hire coaches and book the necessary facilities to perform try outs.
Try Out Process
Will be held in March and early April 2019
Players will be selected on the following criteria: attitude, effort, baseball knowledge and ability. The most talented players will not necessarily be selected for the team.
The coaches along with support provided by CMB’s player selection committee will make final decisions.
All players that do not make the AA team will be offered an opportunity to play for the CMB junior or senior little league teams depending on age.
The team will normally practice two 2-3 times during the week with games on the weekend. For weekends with no games, either the team will practice on the Sat or the Sun. Coaches will communicate this to the parents at the beginning of the season.
The Baseball Alberta Season will run from March (Try Outs) to August 2019 for all teams and players. Attendance and dedication to the program is mandatory for players who make the team.
Travel will be required for approximately 2 weekends in both May and June (This could possibly change if the coaches choose to attend any tournaments).
The team will play 3 weekends in the month of July throughout Alberta with the final Provincial weekend held on August Long weekend for the higher Tiers and the previous weekend for lower tiers.
The AA program ends with Western Canadians for the Tier 1 AA Alberta Champion and the AAA program ends with the Canadian Championships for the Tier 1 AAA Alberta Champion.
Parents and players will be required to do some fundraising throughout the season.
The team registration fee will be $2050 and there will be a $50 fee for all players that try out (See registration). There will be a payment plan available for parents that are interested.
